A memorial sign in honor of the Chornobyl tragedy was erected on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the event. The sculptural composition symbolizes a turbulent element and the struggle with it of the forces of life: a window torn by flames, a frame in the shape of a cross, and a branch of viburnum breaks through it as a symbol of the immortality of the Motherland. The authors of the memorial sign are sculptor V. Bilous and architect M. Yukhymenko.
About 17,000 Poltava residents joined the liquidation of the Chornobyl accident.
