The "Flags" memorial space on Sobornyi Maidan in Poltava is a place to honour the memory of Ukrainian soldiers, both men and women, who lost their lives defending Ukraine.
The tradition of placing memorial flags began in the summer of 2022, when blue-and-yellow and red-and-black flags started to appear on one of the square’s lawns in honour of the fallen defenders. Most of them bear the names of soldiers whose memory is cherished by their families, friends and concerned residents of Poltava.
Over time, the flags have evolved into a special memorial space, serving as a reminder of the price of Ukrainian freedom and of those who gave their lives for the country’s independence and future.
