Description

The memorial sign "Victims of the Holodomor Genocide of the 20th Century" was installed in Park named after Panas Myrnyi on 21 October 2019. It was the first step towards creating a memorial complex dedicated to the memory of the victims of the famines of 1921–1923, 1932–1933 and 1946–1947.

In 2020, a memorial stele appeared next to the cornerstone, honouring those who died during the years of artificially induced famines. The initiators of the installation of these signs were local activists Vitalii and Oleksandr Sorokovi, together with Poltava City Council deputy Julian Matviichuk.

In 2025, the area around the memorial signs was supplemented with a symbolic element — employees of the Decorative Cultures municipal enterprise planted plants that once helped Ukrainians survive during the genocide. These included milkweed, flax, sorrel, deadnettle and other wild plants mentioned in numerous testimonies about the Holodomor in the materials of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, museum collections and research by the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

An information plaque was installed next to the plants explaining how they were used during the famine. It also features a QR code that links to the website of the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide. The link contains a 23-minute account by a witness to the Holodomor from the village of Opishne in the Poltava region, which reveals the personal dimension of the tragedy and preserves a living memory of what was experienced.
