The Ivan Kotliarevskyi's Literary and Memorial Museum in Poltava hosted the presentation of the information brochure "The History of a Monument: Marking the 100th Anniversary of the Unveiling of the Monument to T. H. Shevchenko in Poltava". The event took place as part of the celebrations of Shevchenko Days in Poltava and to mark the centenary of the unveiling of the Poltava monument to the Kobzar.

The monument to Taras Shevchenko in Poltava is one of the oldest in Ukraine and the first of those that has survived to the present day since its unveiling. It was officially unveiled on 12 March 1926. The sculpture was created by the renowned Ukrainian artist Ivan Kavaleridze. Given its historical value, artistic features and authorship, the monument has been entered into the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine as a monument of monumental art of local significance (protection No. 2798-Pl).

The new information brochure is the fourth publication in the series ‘Unique Monuments of Poltava’. It was prepared by the Department of Culture and Youth in accordance with the City Programme for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and Preservation of the Historical Environment of the Poltava City Territorial Community for 2026. The publication is intended for a wide readership and has been distributed to community libraries, municipal museums and tour guides as an educational and methodological guide.

During the presentation, the publication’s team of authors was honoured with a Certificate of Honour from the Poltava City Council.

The presentation was yet another event aimed at promoting Poltava’s historical and cultural heritage and highlighting the significant role played by Taras Shevchenko in Ukrainian culture.
