Representatives from Poltava’s municipal museums took part in a study trip to Hadiach, organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Poltava Regional Military Administration as part of the "Vsi svoi" project. The main focus of the meeting was the exchange of experiences in creating accessible museum spaces and ensuring equal access to cultural heritage.
The programme for the trip combined presentations on successful grant-funded initiatives, an introduction to practical solutions, and direct discussions with those responsible for implementing them.
The first stop was the Vasyl Krychevskyi Poltava Local History Museum, where participants learnt about the implementation of the grant projects "Poltava Local History: Digital Museum" and "New Code of Poltava Local History: Accessibility and Equality", which are being implemented in collaboration with the UkraineOpen team and with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
In Hadiach, participants visited the Hadiach Museum of History and Local History — a modern and accessible space open to a wide range of visitors. Museum staff shared their experience of creating a barrier-free environment, working with veterans and implementing inclusive practices. Particular attention was paid to the virtual tour of the museum, which helps to broaden the audience and make the museum’s heritage more accessible.
For museum professionals from Poltava, this trip provided an opportunity to learn about practical solutions, discuss current challenges and gain new ideas for the development of their own institutions.
Accessibility in culture is not just about physical access to museum spaces, but also about enabling everyone to participate fully in cultural life, to access information and to feel welcome as a visitor.
