March 3 marks World Writers' Day, a holiday that reminds us of the importance of words, the power of literature, and the role of writing in the life of every nation. The decision to celebrate this day was made in 1986 during the 48th Congress of the International PEN Club. In Ukraine, this holiday has been celebrated since 2012 on the initiative of writer Larysa Nitsoi.
Poltava region is rightfully considered the cradle of Ukrainian literature — the homeland of many classics and contemporary masters of the word. Among the most famous natives of the region are Ivan Kotliarevskyi, Panas Myrnyi, Mykola Gogol, Yevgen Hrebinka, Leonid Hlibov, Ostap Vyshnia, Mykola Zerov, Mykhailo Semenko, Vasyl Symonenko, Oksana Ivanenko, Borys Oliinyk, Anatolii Dimarov, and many others.
At various times, a whole galaxy of talented writers lived in Poltava, whose names have entered the golden treasury of Ukrainian literature. Today, there are three literary and memorial museums in the city dedicated to outstanding writers whose lives and work are closely connected with our city.
On the occasion of World Writers' Day, the Literary and Memorial Museum of V. Korolenko in Poltava prepared a lecture for students entitled "Ukraine in the works of V. Korolenko's works,“ with a special focus on the writer's Ukrainian identity, which is reflected in his works, in particular ”Children of the Underground,“ ”The Blind Musician," and others.

An artistic event took place at the Literary and Memorial Museum of Panas Myrnyi in Poltava — a performance entitled “When Literature Speaks Truthfully: Panas Myrnyi.” The writer's work came to life in the poignant sound of excerpts from prose and poetry, revealing the depth and relevance of his legacy. The lyrical melodies of the piano, harmoniously combined with the artistic word, created a special atmosphere for the event.
The Literary and Memorial Museum of Ivan Kotliarevskyi in Poltava hosted a literary and artistic event entitled “Ivan Kotliarevskyi: The Power of the Pen.” The museum was visited by talented students — members of the literary studio “Pereveslo” of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 (headed by Hero of Ukraine Tetiana Balagura) and pupils of the Poltava City Multidisciplinary Lyceum No. 1 named after I. P. Kotliarevskyi (headed by Nataliia Bilyk). The participants of the meeting, who are multiple winners of international, national, regional, and city literary competitions and festivals, presented their own creative works. The young authors were greeted by Viktor Serdiuk, head of the Poltava Regional Organization of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine.
World Writer's Day in Poltava was an opportunity to remember the region's outstanding artists, support young authors, and once again confirm that literature remains a space of freedom, memory, and the future.
